Wren Nest Mill, Glossop

            Project Information:

Wren Nest Mill was a mixed use development of ground floor retail and residential space over, in a five storey former cotton mill. .

Wren Nest was one of Glossop’s largest cotton mills and was seen as a key town centre site in the Glossop ‘Vision Health Check’ study. With its location in the town, on the edge of the Peak District and in close proximity to Manchester, Oakapple was quick to realize the huge potential the mill had to offer as a mixed-use development. The scheme design took advantage of the huge scale of such a building with an inspiring central atrium serving the upper floors.

The design makes optimum use of the space, providing 72 two bedroom apartments for sale, with 20,000 sq ft of retail space at ground floor level. The final element comprised 18 further newbuild apartments, purpose designed and pre-sold to Arcon Housing Association for affordable accommodation. These homes were built alongside the old mill and in natural stone with sympathetic architectural detailing.
